"Giving to those less fortunate"

As you have heard me mention many times, I believe that we, as citizens of this great country, have an obligation, a duty and a responsibility to help our fellow Americans who have not had the blessings that we have. Twice each year the members of the Chapel Hill Leads Group takes some time to help those you are in need and those who are truly hungry. We do so by spending an hour or so at our semi-annual "food drive" in co-operation with A Southern Season. That time is here again, this coming Friday October 30th. Once again, we will have the opportunity to make a difference in the life of someone we will never meet, an opportunity to provide food for a hungry child or adult. All you need to do is to spend one hour of your time. I hope that you will take advantage of this opportunity. the value of that 1 hour is priceless. This Friday, you can make a difference.

I hope to see you at our regular meeting this Wednesday morning with a smile on your face, a joyous song on your mind and gratitude for the life you live and the opportunity to make a difference in this world.

Weekly Meeting:
Our regularly scheduled weekly meeting will be held Wednesday morning at Extraordinary Ventures, Inc., 200 South Elliott Road, Chapel Hill from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Meeting Dues are $5.00 per week.  Place your business card and $1.00 in the Optional Drawing. One card will be selected and that person will receive the week's kitty. For Express Check-In, please arrive with a $5.00, a $1.00, and a business card and we will check you in. We greatly appreciate your bringing correct change. We cannot change large denomination bills ($10, $20, $50, etc.) and cannot accept checks.

Extraordinary Ventures will host the Chapel Hill Leads Group Business and Consumer Expo, Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at 201 West Elliott Road, Chapel Hill,2 7514. This is a great opportunity to showcase and sell your products and services. It is the start of the holiday season. The Expo will be advertised in the Town and Country Trader, Southern Neighbor, The Pinnacle, Coffee News, Chamber of Commerce, and Social Media (internet). Dinner will be catered and Free to visitors and vendors – Meal ticket is honored after visitors visits each vendor and gets a card stamped.

Women's Roundtable - 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 27, 2009
The women's roundtable is a chance for Women Business owners with chamber membership and women managers of businesses with chamber membership to come together to discuss opportunities and challenges in doing business in the Triangle in an ever-changing economy. The meeting agenda includes introductions, success stories, member presentations, book reports and hot topics. The Women's Roundtable meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce, 104 South Estes Drive, Chapel Hill, 27514. Women's Roundtable membership is open to active Chapel Hill Chamber of Commerce members. Community Tuesdays - All Day, Tuesday, October 27, 2009
Every Tuesday this October four wonderful local restaurants—Spanky's, Squid's, 411 West, and MEZ are supporting and promoting the Chamber’s Foundation for a Sustainable Community through a program called Community Tuesdays.

They have generously identified the Chamber's Foundation as the recipient of five percent of the total sales of all four restaurants on the four Tuesdays in October (6, 13, 20, 27). Lunch, dinner, drinks, catering...it all counts.

Please consider scheduling your business lunch or evening event at either Spanky's, Squid's, 411 West, or MEZ on a Tuesday; you’ll support a great local business and our Foundation’s work in Chapel Hill and Carrboro.
Fourth Annual CHLG Food Drive - 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday, October 30, 2009
The Fourth Annual Food Drive to benefit the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina will be held on Friday, October 30, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at A Southern Season in University Mall in Chapel Hill. A Southern Season employees and Chapel Hill Leads Group volunteers will be staffing the collection table all day to accept your donations of food and non-food items. If you cannot donate the time to staff the booth, a food/non-food item will gladly be accepted and cash is cool too. Spread the word to your clients and let them know about the food drive. Perhaps you can collect items at your business and bring them to University Mall that Friday.

About the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina
The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina is a nonprofit organization that provides food for people in need in 34 counties in central and eastern North Carolina. The Food Bank serves a network of more 880 partners agencies offering soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, and programs for children and adults. In fiscal 2005-2006, the Food Bank distributed more than 31.4 million pounds of food and non-food essentials to these agencies. Sadly, hunger remains a serious problem in central and eastern North Carolina. In these counties, more than 440,000 struggle each day to provide enough food for their families. www.foodbankcenc.org.

Economic Outlook Briefing - 7:30-9:30 a.m., Thursday, November 5 - Spice Street
N.C. State Economist Dr. Mike Walden will deliver an economic outlook briefing at November's monthly morning networking event. Dr. Walden will speak about local economic conditions relative to national trends and give a big-picture overview of 2010.
