From the keyboard of Lee Schearer,

Mother's Day, A history lesson

In its present form, Mother's Day was established by Anna Marie Jarvis following the death of her Mother Ann Jarvis on May 12, 1905, with the help of a Philadelphia merchant called John Wannamaker. The first "official" service was held on May 10, 1908. In 1910 the holiday was declared official in the state of West Virginia and the rest of the states followed quickly. On May 8,1914 the United States Congress passed a law designating the 2nd Sunday in May as Mother's Day and requesting a proclamation. On May 9, 1914 President Woodrow Wilson issued a Proclamation declaring the first national Mother's Day as a day for American's citizens to show the flag in honor of those Mother's whose sons had died in war. In 1934 President Franklin D. Roosevelt approved a stamp commemorating the holiday. In May 2008, the U.S. House of Representatives voted twice on a resolution commemorating Mother's Day , and the first one being unanimous so that all Congressmen would be on record showing support for Mother's Day. (p.s. This message is in part from wikipedia.)

I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge and honor all of the Mothers who are members of the Chapel Hill Leads Group. Thank you for your contributions to our communities, our business endeavors and our very lives.

I invite you to join us this Wednesday morning and see why the experience of Chapel Hill Leads Group has made this organization the premier business referral group in the region.

Respectfully,

Lee Schearer
